Learning can take place outside school setting and school trips are often used to complement formal learning in classroom. As a sub type of educational tourism, the trips have been evolved and focused to enrich students learning experience. This paper provides discussion of educational school trip context, tourism elements in school trips, how school trip connects to learning in outdoor setting and challenges in conducting school trips. Compelling explanations are provided for better understanding this segment and can be an opportunity for many parties to reflect and work together to foster learning experience and facilitate leisure and tourism activities for students.
The concept of our tour is to inculcate the traditional values from our ancient times. Our tour destination is Tanjore via Kalanai Dam. We have arranged tour 24 & 25 th November 2022.We have arranged two luxury bus to Grade IX to XII students who have participated in this educational tour. We have started our tour with a Pooja in our school temple. Then the students had breakfast at chakra diary on the way to tanjore. We have visited Kallanai Dam at Trichy.
Kallanai (also known as the Grand Anicut) is an ancient dam. It is built (in running water) across the Kaveri river flowing from Tiruchirapalli District to Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, India. The dam located in Thanjavur district. Located at a distance of 15 km from Tiruchirapalli, 45 km from Tanjavur, the dam was originally constructed during the reign of Chola king Karikalan in 150 CE. It is one of the prime tourist spots in Tamil Nadu. Our students have enjoyed a lot by seeing the beauty of nature and water flow. Next, we have visited Saraswathi Mahal Library, also called Thanjavur Maharaja Serfoji's Saraswathi Mahal Library is a library located in Thanjavur (Tanjore), Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the oldest libraries in Asia established during 16th century by Nayakar kings of Thanjavur and has on display a rare collection of Palm leaf manuscripts and paper written in Tamil and Sanskrit and a few other indigenous languages of india (especially southern regional languages). Then we have visited Rajarajan Manimandapam is located in the Southern Part of Thanjavur. It was built in 1991during the 8th World Tamil Conference. It is a beautiful structure and is built in the style of the buildings constructed during the Chola period. The small and well maintained garden inside is an ideal for children with swings, slides and other such things. We have visited Brahadeeswarar temple & Trichy Rockfort and then we have reached villupuram and dispersed all the students safely to the parents.
